The short version
Demo fees are refunded only when the demo did not happen — teacher no-show, late cancellation, parent didn't respond, whatever the reason on our or the teacher's side. Subscription fees are non-refundable once paid, but because we never auto-debit, cancellation simply means not renewing. There is no cancellation form, no save-offer maze, no retention call. Refunds reach you within 2 to 7 business days via Razorpay.
1. The rule, in one line
Refund only when the demo did not happen. If the demo took place — even if the parent decided not to continue with the tutor — the demo fee is non-refundable. The service was rendered.
Every case below is just a careful read of that single rule. Nothing more. We wrote this policy specifically so that the answer to "will I get my money back?" never depends on which support agent picks up.
2. Every refund scenario, in one table
This table covers every refund situation that can occur on NeoShiksha. If your case isn't here, write to hello@neoshiksha.in and we will treat it under the same one-rule principle.
Refund eligibility by scenario
| Scenario | Refund? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Teacher pays demo fee, parent never responds | Yes — full refund | Demo did not happen. Auto-refund within 24 hours of admin verification. |
| Teacher pays demo fee, parent confirms but demo doesn't take place | Yes — full refund | Demo did not happen. Admin verifies with parent and triggers refund. |
| Teacher pays demo fee, demo happens, parent decides not to continue | No refund | Service was rendered. The demo is what you paid for, not the long-term tuition. |
| Parent pays demo fee, teacher cancels last minute or no-shows | Yes — full refund + ₹49 credit for the next demo | Demo did not happen. The credit is a goodwill gesture; we know your time was blocked. |
| Lapsed teacher pays ₹999 emergency demo fee, demo doesn't happen | Yes — full refund | Same rule. The fee amount makes no difference. |
| Free demo during the Launch Year Offer (₹0 transaction) | Not applicable | No money changed hands. Nothing to refund. |
| Admin-overridden free demo (cousin, friend, complimentary) | Not applicable | No money changed hands. Nothing to refund. |
| Teacher pays subscription, then wants to cancel mid-term | No refund | Plan continues to its end-date, then does not renew. See section 4. |
| Subscription auto-debit charge you didn't authorise | Not applicable | We never run auto-debit. If you see one, it's not us — contact your bank and email us so we can investigate. |
3. Parent demo-fee refunds — how they work
If you have paid a demo fee (₹49 standard, or ₹0 while the Launch Year Offer is active) and the demo does not happen for any reason — the teacher cancels, the teacher no-shows, or there is a verified technical issue from the teacher's side — your refund is processed without you needing to do anything:
- We are notified automatically when a demo is marked as "did not happen".
- An administrator reviews the case within 24 hours on business days.
- Once verified, the refund is triggered through Razorpay.
- Razorpay returns the money to your original payment method within 2 to 7 business days.
- You receive an email confirmation when the refund is initiated.
- As a goodwill gesture, you also receive a ₹49 credit applied automatically to your next demo booking.
You never have to fill out a form, log in to a portal, or chase a support agent for a parent demo refund. We initiate it; you receive it.
4. Teacher demo-fee refunds — how they work
When you express interest in a parent's requirement and our team selects you as one of the top 3 matches, you pay a per-demo fee based on your plan (₹499 / ₹199 / ₹49 / ₹49 / ₹999 — see section 7 of our Terms). If the demo with that parent does not happen:
- Mark the demo as "did not happen" in your dashboard within 48 hours, with a one-line reason (parent not reachable, parent cancelled, conflicting schedule, etc.).
- An administrator reaches out to the parent to verify.
- Once verified, the refund is initiated through Razorpay within 24 hours.
- You receive an email confirmation. The money returns to your original payment method within 2 to 7 business days.
- Your demo-interest slot for that lead is released so another teacher can take it.
If you do not flag the demo within 48 hours and the parent later confirms the demo happened, we may treat the demo as completed for refund purposes. Flagging late is the most common reason a refund gets declined — so flag promptly.
5. Subscription cancellation — the no-auto-debit promise
This is the part most platforms hide. We're going to do the opposite and put it in the plainest language we can:
We do not run auto-debit on any NeoShiksha subscription. Ever. Every renewal is a one-click action you take manually. If you do nothing, your plan ends. There is no cancellation form, no retention flow, no save offer.
What this means in practice
- Your subscription is active for the period you paid for — one month, or one year on the Annual plan.
- We will email you on Day -7, Day -3, Day -1, Day 0, and Day +7 around your expiry, with a one-click renew link.
- If you choose to renew, you renew. If you don't, the plan simply lapses.
- Lapsing moves you to "Grace" status for 7 days (previous demo rate continues), then to "Lapsed" status (₹999 emergency demo fee, dashboard read-only).
- You can reactivate anytime by picking any plan. Your profile, content, and history are preserved.
What this does not mean
- Subscription fees you have already paid are non-refundable. If you cancel mid-month, your plan continues until the paid period ends; you don't get a pro-rated refund.
- Once Lapsed, your subscription does not restart on its own. You actively choose a plan to come back.
6. Launch Year Offer transactions
While the Launch Year Offer is active, parent demo fees are ₹0 and teachers access the leads dashboard for free, paying only ₹99 per demo. Any ₹0 booking goes through as a zero-amount record.
Because no money changes hands on a ₹0 booking, refunds do not apply to it. If a free demo doesn't happen, the only consequence is that you were not charged — the booking is simply marked closed. Paid demo fees (₹99 teacher, or ₹999 lapsed) follow the normal refund rule above.
7. How long refunds take
Refund processing timeline
| Stage | Time |
|---|---|
| Demo flagged as "did not happen" | Immediate |
| Admin verification | Within 24 hours on business days |
| Refund initiated through Razorpay | Same business day as verification |
| Money returned to your payment method | 2 to 7 business days from initiation |
| End-to-end (worst case) | About 8 business days |
| End-to-end (typical) | 3 to 4 business days |
The 2-to-7-day window after Razorpay initiates the refund is governed by Razorpay and your bank — it is outside our direct control. Some banks credit refunds the same day; others take the full 7. International cards can occasionally take longer.
8. How to request a refund (if you need to)
In most cases you don't have to ask. Demos flagged as "did not happen" automatically enter the refund queue. But if you believe a refund is owed and you haven't seen it processed, here's how to escalate:
- Write to hello@neoshiksha.in from the email on your account.
- Include the demo or payment reference ID (visible in your dashboard).
- Add a one-line description of what happened.
- We respond within 24 hours on business days.
9. If we decline a refund
Occasionally we decline a refund — typically because the demo did happen and was verified with the other party, or because a flag was raised after the 48-hour window with no supporting evidence. When we decline, we will:
- Email you the decision with a clear reason, in plain English.
- Include the evidence we relied on (parent confirmation, dashboard timestamps, etc.).
- Invite you to appeal within 30 days by replying to that email.
Appeals are reviewed personally by the founder or a senior administrator. We will respond within 7 business days with a final decision. If after the appeal you still believe a refund is owed, you may escalate to the Razorpay dispute process or, ultimately, to a court of competent jurisdiction in Delhi (see our Terms of Service for governing-law details).
10. Razorpay-specific notes
- All refunds are processed through the Razorpay Refund API and credited to your original payment method (UPI, card, net banking).
- Razorpay reverses the 1% TDS deducted at settlement proportionally; you will see this on your statement.
- Failed refund attempts are retried automatically by Razorpay.
- If your original payment method is no longer active (card expired, account closed), Razorpay will reach out for an alternative.
- Razorpay's published refund window is up to 7 business days; we cannot accelerate this.
11. Why we wrote this policy this way
Most edtech platforms structure their refund policy as a defensive wall: 30-day windows, eligibility checkboxes, mandatory phone calls, retention offers. The user does the work and the platform decides.
We tried the opposite. One rule. One timeline. No auto-debit so there's nothing to silently charge. No cancellation form so there's no friction to leave. The result is a policy you can read in five minutes and remember from one demo to the next.
If you ever feel the gap between what we wrote here and how it actually works in your case, that is a bug we want to fix. Write to hello@neoshiksha.in and we will make it right.
